Better Candidate Experience = Better Hire

During economic uncertainty, selecting the right candidate is essential. However, many companies frequently underestimate the significance of a positive hiring experience for applicants.

According to the latest Jobvite research, candidates want a streamlined hiring process, with 56% of candidates — the largest percentage group in the survey — saying they want an easy job application process.

And while there are many steps to the hiring process, companies can offer a quick application process by providing efficient and reliable high-tech background screenings.

Research shows that background screenings are essential for hiring the right candidates. A survey from the Professional Background Screening Association found that 95% of companies conduct some sort of background screening, and 52% do so to improve the quality of their hires.

Because some candidates try to cheat on background checks, adding a background screen is essential, however, maintaining a positive screening environment sets a company apart. High tech screening solutions with a seamless candidate interface show potential hires that the company cares about quality, while also making the process efficient for the potential hire.

Laura Lange from Veriswift agrees. “Positive candidate experiences contribute to a favorable employer brand, making it more likely for top talent to consider the company as a desirable place to work,” Lange said.

Companies want to attract the best people for the job. Improving their background screening process for potential candidates is the first step. Below are a few ways companies can utilize efficient background screening processes and technology to ensure candidates receive the best possible experience.

How efficient background checks improve candidate experience

One of the best ways to improve a candidate’s application process is to make the overall experience as simple as possible. Lange said that streamlined and fast background screenings help companies improve the candidate hiring process.

“A well-executed background check can ensure that the hiring process remains efficient and does not cause unnecessary delays, leading to a smoother overall experience for the candidate,” Lange said.

Jobvite’s research backs up this idea. According to the survey, one of the top-five factors leading to a positive candidate experience was a “short/quick hiring process,” with 42% of candidates saying it’s important to them, up 7% from 2022.

Efficient screenings also help prevent companies and candidates from encountering unwanted surprises during hiring. “By informing candidates upfront about the background check process, potential red flags can be addressed and discussed openly, preventing unpleasant surprises later in the hiring process,” Lange noted.

Why high-tech background screenings lead to better hires

While speed is essential to creating a positive experience for candidates, companies must also ensure that their background screening process is accurate. Implementing the latest screening technologies help hiring teams provide both speed and accuracy.

“Advanced technology can improve the accuracy of background checks, reducing the chances of false positives or negatives in the screening process,” Lange said.

Lange mentioned that high-tech solutions evaluate employment history, education verification, criminal records, and social media screening — and can seamlessly integrate with a company’s existing applicant tracking system.

Accurate screenings help build trust among job candidates by showing them that companies are interested in working with the best people, and Lange said that it also helps companies ensure that their “hiring decisions are based on reliable data.”

Enhancing the hiring process during uncertain times

There’s still plenty of economic uncertainty right now, as inflation remains elevated, some companies are cutting back staff, and many have to do more work with fewer resources.

Meanwhile, potential candidates expect the hiring process to proceed quickly, with 68% of candidates saying their job search should last one to three months, according to Jobvite.

Companies can stand out among potential candidates by offering a fast hiring process and using accurate and reliable screening technology — all of which help ensure that companies can snatch qualified candidates before they move on to another position.

“An efficient and reliable hiring process ensures that qualified candidates are identified and onboarded promptly, helping the company adapt to market demands and remain competitive,” Lange said.
